I love combining stripes and Chinoiserie. Stripes, with their masculine, nautical, crisp, geometric boldness serve as the perfect counterpoint to the often more feminine and pretty side of Chinoiserie. I especially like using striped rugs.

A wonderful and budget friendly striped rug is the Ikea Stockholm Rand shown below and the same style rug above (Madeline Weinrib's Buche rug is very similar). This style rug is all the rage in shelter mags and with good reason. It is a show stopper. It is fantastic layered with a zebra rug above.

I have included inspiration boards of mine combining Chinoiserie and various striped rugs as well as rooms by other interior designers combining them. I am very tempted to purchase the Ikea Rand for my own home, switching out the antique Persian rug for it in the summer. I lived in a great house in Georgetown during law school where the owners took up all the Oriental rugs in the summer, replacing them with jute and sea grass, and they covered all the furniture with white slipcovers. Such a great summer look.

The Pagoda

Last week, I did a series of inspiration boards for my fantasy Chinoiserie Chic house and posted about my dream Chinoiserie house called the Pagoda currently on the market just outside of London. I thought it would be fun to put these all together for a little tour. Today is the last day to enter my giveaway here. Tomorrow will be the announcement of the winner and another fabulous giveaway announcement you will not want to miss.

My four year blogiversary is this coming Saturday. This week I will be creating a new fantasy inspiration board each day, with the announcement of my giveaway on Friday.

Today I have created a really chic and glamorous unisex nursery. The wallpaper is Scalamandre Zebras in a beautiful purple, great for either a boy or a girl. The crib is the first ever entirely acrylic crib available at The Well Appointed House as is the Dorothy Draper style changing table and dresser. The dragon lamp is Jonathan Adler. The chandelier is by Marjorie Skouras. The Crate and Barrel Tess chair is in a deep purple called grape. A large abstract by artist Kerry Steele is the perfect finishing touch. I love the idea of original art in the nursery. This room can easily become a guest bedroom or an office down the road it is so ultra sophisticated.

 With the passing of Lilly Pulitzer this past week, Palm Beach style has been very much in the news. I think you will see interior designers feature the Palm Beach look in the next year in homage to her.
