Inspiration Board Inspired by the One Room Challenge

Posted by sew4tejhtr6ier Selasa, 12 November 2013 0 komentar

One of my favorite things from the One Room Challenge is these amazing blue and white botanical prints that Jennifer from The Pink Pagoda created for Linda (Calling It Home)'s family room. They are available in her Etsy store as a pair, three, or four. Aren't they wonderful? They would work well in an entryway, dining room, living room, or bedroom as well.

I created an inspiration board using the set of four with a green Parsons table, a pair of ginger jars from The Pink Pagoda and a stunning green glazed vase from The Pink Pagoda.

Here is more of this combination I adore - green with blue and white Chinoiserie. This green is getting me in the mood for Christmas decorating. I can't wait. I am planning a huge upcoming series on decorating your home for the holidays with Chinoiserie.

Chinoiserie Then and Now and Mystery Wallpaper Solved

Posted by sew4tejhtr6ier Minggu, 13 Oktober 2013 0 komentar

This bedroom is in the Governor's Palace in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, circa 1722.  So much strikes me as relevant and even trending today -

*Toile
*Scallops
*Purple
*A flat weave patterned rug
*Green
*Checks
*Painted Chinese Chippendale Chairs
* The combination of purple and green
*White linens

These modern versions of purple and green Chinoiserie rooms below seem somewhat less bold when viewed against this, right?

An interior designer emailed me trying to identify this Chinoiserie wallpaper for a client. It may be discontinued. Can any of you help?

Update - I have the best followers. This is Brunschwig & Fils La Danse, still available as fabric but apparently no longer in wallpaper. Thanks so much Meg.

Blue & White & Green DIY

Crazy busy around here. Planning and renovation of my One Room Challenge laundry room makeover is in full swing with a progress report on Wednesday. Since I am doing my laundry room in blue and white and Chinoiserie, I thought this week I would focus on posts on more blue and white Chinoiserie, mud rooms, and laundry rooms to inspire us all.

My Houzz Ideabook this month is on "Green With Chinosierie Envy" and I have really fallen for the combination of green and Chinoiserie - it gives it a real modern vibe. Here are two great DIY ideas. I have always thought the wooden stands for Chinese porcelain were a bit stodgy looking. Spray paint them and WOW! These are done in green, but they could be in any color - orange, coral, hot pink, navy, Chinese red, the world is your oyster. And the combination below of the green apples in the blue and white Chinese porcelain bowl is fabulous and so easy.

Green and Chinoiserie and a Giveaway at AnthologyHouse

My new Houzz Ideabook is up today and the topic is Green and Chinoiserie. This is my 29th Ideabook for Houzz. You can access all my Ideabooks anytime by clicking on the link in my sidebar. There you will find ideas and links to hundreds of products covering virtually every aspect of Chinoiserie. Since I am doing a series this week on Chinoiserie Chic on blue and white, I have shown here some great examples of how to combine green with blue and white Chinoiserie.

I'd also love for you to pop over to the blog of my sponsor AnthologyHouse. They are celebrating their one year anniversary with a fantastic giveaway there you will want to participate in with some fabulous vintage giveaways for the very chic bar or bar cart. If you have not checked out their Etsy store yet, they concentrate on Chinoiserie, Mid Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, Preppy Chic, and Danish Mod. One of their specialties is amazing vintage finds for the bar - so hot.

And finally, tomorrow is the launch of the new One Room Challenge. I am so excited to be starting on my blue and white room. The group of participants is very impressive and I know you will enjoy following along. Two hints on what room I am choosing - it is the hottest room in interior design right now but RARELY seen using Chinoiserie. Any guesses?

A Chinoiserie Vignette and New Work by Kerry Steele

Isn't this stunning? The Chinoiserie screen is amazing, but don't miss the detailing on the floor, chair, bench, console table, and lamp. Note the abstract art as well. Speaking of abstract art, you'll want to check out Kerry Steele's new work. She is now selling her canvases through her own online store and galleries, and continues to sell her works on paper in her Etsy store. The pieces below are some of my new favorites. I really love her use of color.

The rest of the room

"Elemental Memory" - 24" by 30" oil on canvas

"Sweet Tea" - 24" by 30" oil on canvas
"Perhaps to Bloom" - 18" by 24" oil on canvas

A Gorgeous Chinoiserie Powder Room

Posted by sew4tejhtr6ier Kamis, 30 Mei 2013 0 komentar

Having grown up in Lake Forest, Illinois, its great homes are still to me the most beautiful anywhere. The stage for the 15th biennial Lake Forest Showhouse was an Italian Renaissance 15,000 square foot estate designed in 1916 by famed architect David Adler.

Interior designer Shelley Johnstone Paschke designed the lounge and powder room. The lounge walls are lacquered in Farrow and Ball Saxon Green and are trimmed in gold. The ceiling is painted in faux malachite. Note the ivory silk curtains trimmed in Samuel and Sons Greek key, the Oscar de la Renta Zeus chair with tiger silk velvet, the sisal carpet, rustic baskets, lucite console, and antique Chinese export jars.

In the powder room area, she has papered the walls in Farrow & Ball Acanthus. I love the lucite stand with the blue and white Chinese jar and the starburst chandelier. All in all, a wonderful mix of many of my favorite elements.
