Here we are at Day 15 of decorating your home for the holidays with Chinoiserie Chic style.

Dreaming of a White Chinoiserie Christmas?
Christmas in the Pink
2013 Chinoiserie Chic Christmas Ornaments

And have you entered to win these Christmas giveaways?

Today we look at giving your mantel some Chinoiserie holiday love. Here is some wonderful inspiration.

Note that in only one of these are stockings hung by the chimney with care. I have never been one to hang stockings from the mantel either. I have some beautiful Chinoiserie Christmas stockings, but I tend to use them elsewhere in the house draped on chairs or beds rather than the fireplace.

The Chinoiserie Fireplace

Temperatures have really cooled off here in DC and my thoughts have turned to my fall wardrobe and toasty fires in the fireplace. I love the mantel display in the London flat of Christopher Leach with its collection of mini foo dogs. Speaking of Brits, will I be seeing any of you at the Hugh Laurie (House) concert tomorrow night at the Birchmere?

The mantel/fireplace is such a perfect place for displaying Chinoiserie - blue and white Chinese porcelain, foo dogs, a Chinese garden stool, a Chinoiserie mirror - I have a Pinterest board with lots of inspiration here.

An Inspiration Board - Styling the Chinoiserie Mantel

Your fireplace and mantel are focal points in your home all year long, not only in the winter and at Christmas. I tend to favor symmetry when styling the fireplace and mantel. My favorite approach is a large abstract painting (the bigger, the better) and a pair of blue and white Chinese porcelain ginger jars, vases, or tulipieres, flanked by a great pair of chairs. I have put together a really good Pinterest board on styling the Chinoiserie mantel, with loads of inspiration here. Below are a few favorites.

Canary Yellow Bergere Club Chairs from Charlotte & Ivy
Pair of Slender Blue and White Ginger Jars from The Pink Pagoda
Large Abstract Painting from Kerry Steele

We are starting today a new series on Chinoiserie decorating questions that followers have submitted to me. I selected this topic submission because I find that most people and clients struggle with styling their mantel. I also think that most "rules" on decorating the mantel are nonsense and made to be broken - symmetrical or asymmetrical, simple or layered, formal or eclectic, a mirror or art - it's really all a matter of your style and having a good eye. Here are my tips for adding Chinoiserie style to your mantel.

1. Chinoiserie Wallpaper or Hand-painted Chinoiserie Mural

2. A Pair of Ginger Jars

3. Foo Dogs

4. Pagodas

5. Chinoiserie on the Floor/Hearth

6. Chinoiserie Mantels -

7. Blue and White Chinese Porcelain

8. A Collection of Monochromatic Chinese Vases -
