"The Secret Garden was what Mary called it when she was thinking of it. She liked the name, and she liked still more the feeling that when its beautiful old walls shut her in no one knew where she was. It seemed almost like being shut out of the world in some fairy place."

Frances Hodgson Burnett

The Secret Garden collect - vintage keys, hung on sterling silver chains. Each key is unique, so once it's gone, it can't be repeated. I hope you like.

Oh you pretty things

For the last week Wallpaper Rose has been under maintenance, it's been a long battle with html and css - neither of which I understand (really, it's a complex code of gobbledegook and I'm in awe of anyone who can understand it properly) but the site went live yesterday afternoon and this is the new look. The screen shots are a bit crappy, but it does look better in person.
There are still a few changes I want to make, but the site being down for a week seemed quite long enough, so I'll make those as I go (if I even can) when I have the time. I wanted something that seemed a bit cleaner, more elegant and a little less cute-sy.
Hopefully I've achieved that - I'm really pleased with the way that it looks, which is such a relief as at one point I really thought I was going to have to give up and revert back to the old design it was going that badly! I guess the next step is to attack this blog to make them match.

FEATURED: Little Fille

Cosette
As per usual I have grand plans about blogging, I have an idea, mentally plan it and then never write it. A perfect example would be Little Fille's new Winter 2011 collection. I saw photos some time ago via Mari's facebook, then started further coveting when she released her online publication (an amazing contraption) and it's taken until now for me to share it with you. These are a few of my favourites.

Belle
Rayanne
Ruby
Eloise
Mathilde
And low and behold, when I didn't think it could get any better Mari makes peter pan collars. (Possibly my most favourite thing - after polar bear cubs and peanut butter and jam sandwiches...) It's something I had a go at a few months ago and failed miserably - trust me, you should see the prototypes.

If you're not familiar with Little Fille or just want to see the entire collection take a look here. Coveting too?

Lola  - Navy

Little Fille are running a Giveaway to win a Lola headwrap (well, four to be precise) just head over to Mari's blog and follow the instructions!

The Baudelaires

Meet the Baudelaires

"If you are interested in stories with happy endings, you would be better off reading some other book. In this book, not only is there no happy ending, there is no happy beginning and very few happy things in the middle. This is because not very many happy things happened in the lives of the three Baudelaire youngsters."

Violet Baudelaire

"Anyone who knew Violet well could tell she was thinking hard, because her long hair was tied up in a ribbon to keep it out of her eyes. Violet had a real knack for inventing and building strange devices, so her brain was often filled with images of pulleys, levers, and gears, and she never wanted to be distracted by something as trivial as her hair."

Klaus Baudelaire

"The Baudelaire parents had an enormous library in their mansion, a room filled with thousands of books on nearly every subject. Being only twelve, Klaus of course had not read all of the books in the Baudelaire library, but he had read a great many of them and had retained a lot of the information from his readings. He knew how to tell an alligator from a crocodile. He knew who killed Julius Caesar. And he knew much about the tiny, slimy animals found at Briny Beach, which he was examining now."

(You can see Sonny Baudelaire in the first photo - I just haven't photographed her properly yet!)

SMUG Pop Up Print Shop

Posted by sew4tejhtr6ier Minggu, 06 November 2011 0 komentar
I should probably warn you this post is image heavy. Heavy.

At SMUG we've recently launched a Pop Up Print Shop. The upper floor is jam-packed with old school desks and tables to showcase an array of illustrative prints, enabling you to rifle through like a record shop. The prints range from £6-£85 and include exclusives, screen prints, letter pressed work and giclee prints to name but a few. It's a project we've been working on for quite some time at Smug, and the amount of work Lizzie (Smug's owner and owl lover) has put in to make it all happen has been phenomenal. It's been a fantastic thing/entity/project (?!) to be a part of, it's been really exciting meeting with illustrators, discussing their work and developing ideas for exclusives with them. It has also made me increasingly envious of people with drawing skills.

So without further ado, I present to you - the Pop Up Print Shop.

There's so much variety, it's unreal, but these are a few of my favorites...

Harriet Gray - Heidi Bear (Never have I seen a prouder bear - to say I need him for my wall is an understatement)

Holly Exley - PugPug (he's such a cute fatty!)

Isobel Kho - Pug
James Brown - Viking
Linus Kraemer - Cylinders
Stacie Swift - Owl Triangle (SMUG Exclusive)

Me & Sahar - House On Stilts (A few years ago I went to Svalbard and this just brings back some incredible memories)

The Pop Up Print Shop runs until the end of January, includes a range of exclusives and as if you needed any further enticement, when you purchase three prints you get a free (yes FREE) Smug tote bag.
The design on the back is nearly as exciting as the Guinea Pig.

If you get the opportunity, the show really is worth coming and having a look - plus you'll probably make my day if you say hi!

(In other news, I just watched E.T and feel emotionally ruined. It truly is wonderful.)
